eScan Customization Kit

Overview

eScan Customization Kit is a free utility from MicroWorld. It is designed for use by eScan partners and customers, who need to customize eScan products to display their contact details. This will enable customers to contact their eScan service providers easily if they have any queries.

Pre-requisites for using the eScan Customization Kit

  • The eScan product setup file, which needs to be customized.

How to Run the eScan Customization Kit

To run the eScan Customization Kit, perform the following steps.

1. Open Windows Explorer, and then navigate to the folder where you have saved the executable for eScan Customization Kit (usetup.exe).

2. In Windows Explorer, double-click the usetup file.


Understanding the GUI

The eScan Customization Kit allows you to customize the contact information within setup files for eScan products and eScan Anti-Virus Toolkit (formerly MWAV).



Based on your requirements, you can select either eScan or MWAV from the Select Products section.

Note: The screen will show the tabs corresponding to the product that you have selected.

I. The eScan Option

The eScan Customization Kit dialog box shows the following tabs when you select the eScan option.


  • The Setup File Info Tab
This tab provides you with options for selecting the eScan build (executable product file), which needs to be customized.

Note: You cannot restore the build to its original state after it has been customized. Therefore, as a best practice you should always create a backup of the build before customizing it.


This tab contains the following settings.

a.Setup File Name: You must specify the name and the full path of the eScan product setup file in this box. Alternatively, you can click on the button to navigate to the folder where you have saved the setup file and select it.
b.Silent Mode Installation: You should select this option if you want to prevent prompts and warning messages from being displayed during the installation process.
c.Auto Reboot after Install: You should select this option if you want the computer to reboot after eScan has been installed on it by using the customized setup file.
d.Evaluation Days: [Default: 0] This box shows the default value as 0. This means that the customized product will run for a period of 30 days without the license key. You can set the number of days for which a customer can evaluate eScan. The maximum number of days that you can select is 90.
e.Selected Options: This box is usually blank. However, it will show the customized embedded information if the build is already customized.


  • The Company Info I Tab

The tab helps you customize the information about the Web site address of your company, default e-mail address of the sales department, and Web links that the customers should click to buy the product or renew the product license.



This tab contains the following settings.

a. Default WebSite: You can specify the address of your company’s Web site in this box.
b. Default Sales email-ID: [Mandatory] You should specify the e-mail address of your sales department. This information is mandatory.
c. Buy Link: You should specify the Web site that the customers should visit to purchase the eScan product.
d. Renew Link: You should specify the Web site that the customers should visit to purchase the eScan product.

Note: After you enter a hyperlink on this tab, you can click the button to verify whether the link is correct and view the Web site in a browser window. Also, please note that the button will be disabled if the corresponding box is empty.



  • The Company Info II Tab

This tab helps you specify the warning messages information that should be displayed during the evaluation and contract periods.

This tab contains the following settings.

a. Message during evaluation period (Message #1): You can specify a message that you want to customers to see during the evaluation period.
b.Message before contract period complete (Message #2): You can specify a message that you want to customers to see before the contract period gets over.
c.Message after evaluation period complete: You can specify a message that you want to customers to see after the evaluation period gets over.
d.Message after contract period complete: You can specify a message that you want to customers to see after the contract period gets over.
e.Days for displaying message during evaluation period: You can specify the number of days for which this alert message should be displayed prior to the completion of the evaluation period. The maximum number of days that you can specify is 30.
f.Days for displaying message during Contract period: You can specify the number of days for which this alert message should be displayed prior to the completion of the contract period. The maximum number of days that you can specify is 30.


  • Customize now This button is enabled when you specify the path of the setup file that needs to be customized.


Steps to Customize the eScan Setup File

To customize the product setup file, perform the following steps.

1. Download the eScan Customization Kit from the eScan Customization Kit Web page and then save it to a folder on your computer.

2. Navigate to the folder where you have saved the executable for eScan Customization Kit (usetup.exe), and then double-click it.

3. In the eScan Customization Kit dialog box, under Select Products, ensure that eScan is selected.


4. Then, on the Setup File Info tab, in the Setup File Name box, type the full path of the setup file or use the button to navigate and select the folder where the setup file is located.


5. To ensure that the eScan product will be installed in the silent mode, select the Silent Mode Installation check box.

6. To ensure that the computer on which the eScan product reboots automatically after installation, select the Auto Reboot after Install check box.


7. To specify the number of days a user can evaluate the eScan product, in the Evaluation Days box, type or select a value that is between 0 and 90 (both inclusive).

8. On the Company Info I tab, specify the contact information for the company. Ensure that you fill in the default sales e-mail-id.


9. On the Company Info II tab, specify the messages that eScan should display during and after the expiry of the license period and contract period. Also, specify the days prior to expiry of the license or contract period that the message should be displayed.


10. To customize the eScan product setup file, click Customize now. This will upload the customization information on the eScan server.


11. In the Information message box, click OK.


12. To ensure that the product setup file is customized, on the Setup File Info tab, under Selected Options, ensure that the customization information is displayed, and then click Close. If all the information is correctly displayed, the customized build of eScan is ready for installation.


II. The MWAV Option

The eScan Customization Kit dialog box shows the following tabs when you select the MWAV option.


  • The Setup File Info Tab

This tab provides you with options for selecting the MWAV executable, which needs to be customized.


This tab contains the following settings.

1. Setup File Name: You must specify the name and the full path of the MWAV executable file in this box. Alternatively, you can click on the button to navigate to the folder where you have saved the file and select it.

2. Selected Options: This box is usually blank. However, it will show the customized embedded information if the build is already customized.


  • The Company Info Tab

The tab helps you customize the information about the address of the Web site for eScan ISS and eScan AV. It also helps you specify the Web links that the customers should click to buy or try product.


This tab contains the following settings.

a. Default WebSite for ISS: You can specify the URL that the customers can click to find out more about eScan ISS.
b. Default WebSite for Anti-Virus: You can specify the URL that the customers can click to find out more about eScan AV.
c. BuyLink for ISS: You should specify the Web site that the customers should visit to purchase eScan ISS.
d. BuyLink for Anti-Virus: You should specify the Web site that the customers should visit to purchase eScan AV.
e. TryLink for ISS: You should specify the Web site that the customers should visit to download eScan ISS to evaluate it.
f. TryLink for Anti-Virus: You should specify the Web site that the customers should visit to download eScan AV to evaluate it.
  • Customize now. This button is enabled when you specify the path of the setup file that needs to be customized.


Steps to Customize the MWAV File

To customize the product setup file, perform the following steps.

1. Download the eScan Customization Kit from the eScan Customization Kit Web page and then save it to a folder on your computer.


2. Navigate to the folder where you have saved the executable for eScan Customization Kit (usetup.exe), and then double-click it.


3. In the eScan Customization Kit dialog box, under Select Products, click MWAV.


4. Then, on the Setup File Info tab, in the Setup File Name box, type the full path of the setup file or use the browse button to navigate and select the folder where the setup file is located.




5. On the Company Info tab, specify the appropriate URLs.


6. To customize the eScan product setup file, click Customize now. This will upload the customization information on the eScan server.


7. In the Information message box, click OK.


8. To ensure that the product setup file is customized, on the Setup File Info tab, under Selected Options, ensure that the customization information is displayed, and then click Close. If all the information is correctly displayed, the customized build of eScan is ready for installation.

Note: The eScan Customization Kit saves the customization information in a file named usetup.ini in the %temp% directory after the customization is complete.


This information will be used by the utility for loading the customization information added previously. If the customized build contains any error, you can restore the executable from the backup you have made and customize it using the updated information.


Additional Notes

After customization, the setup installer loses its digital signature. When you double-click the executable, the Publisher name is shown as Unknown Publisher. This will not affect the working of eScan. However, to sign the executable again, you must write to qa@escanav.com giving the download details of the customized versions. The QA team will sign the executable again and send it back to you.
