Q. How can I download updates for my eScan clients version 9 from an eScan Server version 10?

It is observed Mails exceeding the mail size restriction gets accumulated in the Spoolout folder of the Mailscan.How do I stop emails (exceeding the size limit)being accepted by Mailscan when there is already a size restriction defined in the Mailserver.?

A. To download updates for eScan clients version 9 from an eScan Server version 10, follow the steps below:

Solution:-

:1. Open the eupdate.ini of the eScan Server from \Program files\escan\ directory or the eScan installed directory,
To stop emails being accepted by Mailscan as per the size restriction defined in the Mailserver, follow the below steps:

:2. search for "DoNotAllowDownload=" entry.

:3. Default entry will be
DoNotAllowDownload=*.avc,*.avx,*.set,*.key,*.vnd,update.txt,*.dt,kerupd.upz

:4. You have to remove all the values and save the eupdate.ini file. The value should be
DoNotAllowDownload=

:5. And start downloading the udpates.

:6. It will store Verion 9 updates in \pub\update folder (share name is escanupd$)

:7. And the Version 10 updates will be stored under \pub\avx folder (share name is escanavx$ )

:8 Whenever a eScan client or server version 9 will download the updates from eScan version 10 server it will choose the \pub\update path which is default one. And version 10 client will choose the \pub\avx path to download the other signatures.

Note: The Above Changes is to be implemented Only when Client OS are Below Windows XP.

# Open the mailscan.ini in \program files\mailscan folder,
# Set the value for Max_Size_To_Spoolout to the maximum allowed size in bytes

For eg if the max mail size restriction is 20MB then the value is set to

Max_Size_To_Spoolout=20480000
